To Be in the Grey is Okay
n these harshly polemic times, a reminder that ‘To Be Grey is Okay’ is a deeply relieving and relevant concept. As a way to live, and as a way to create music, the British Columbia based Rinnovare has plumbed the depths of this concept, creating a track without too many sharp corners or right angles. Each phrase and tone presents itself as slightly warped around the edges; content that bleeds a bit into each other. As Rinnovare puts it, the full track is full of “washed and spiralling guitar swells, recorded through tape machines and mic’d guitar amps. Dusty synth pads carrying slow melodic pulsing and bedding. Felted piano illuminating the way home”. Beautiful work from this well-respected artist in the canon of artists like Benoit Pioulard and Slow Meadow.
